California High School Football Top 25 State Rankings - Oct. 28, 2025

St. John Bosco vs. Mater Dei week feels a little different but both teams come in victorious; Nearly half the Top 25 to play on Thursday instead of Friday
Mater Dei and St. John Bosco battled for the 2023 CIF Division I championship game at the LA Memorial Coliseum. As always the game was up for grabs, though the Monarchs won this won going away, 35-7, about six weeks after St. John Bosco shutout Mater Dei, 28-0. Anything can happen even with host Braves being the big favorite Friday at home

The last week of the regular season is upon us in five sections: San Diego, Southern, LA City, Central and Sac-Joaquin.

The rest of the five sections have two more weeks.

Not only is it Halloween week, but for California High School football fans, they get the treat of Mater Dei versus St. John Bosco. With two league losses for Mater Dei, the game doesn't appear to mean as much. But clearly when those two programs meet, it's something special.

Thursday vs. Mission Viejo | Always something special

Seven of the last nine seasons, Mater Dei and St. John Bosco have played twice. The first always coming in Trinity League play, and each second-time matchup coming in the Division 1 final. In that span, Mater Dei is 7-2 in Trinity League play against the Braves, and the Monarchs hold a slim 4-3 advantage in D1 finals.

It's going to be a busy Thursday night of football this week, with 11 teams in the Top 25 playing the day before Halloween.
